28 days left - which is weirder?
yesterday all interns of the austrian embassy were invited to a bbq at the ambassador's residency. was good fun, but there was at least this one person that confused us a little bit. the ambassador's husband. apart from drinking a two liter bottle of wine and trying to imply that in fact he is the most influential person representing austria in the us (by the way, he is about 20 cm shorter than his wife, the ambassador), he put on a roman toga after his soak in the pool (officially a fire water pond).
i found myself remembering stories of emperor nero and felt an uncomfortableness, when i remembered the story with his castrated lover sporus...
anyway, probably most of you would agree that some aspects of this situation were kind of weird for us. but can you imagine stefan, a former ski-jumper (the guy on the right), singing the famous, traditional austrian song "ziwui, ziwui,..." (sorry, there's no translation for the lyrics, but it is mainly about smelling feet) for the japanese emperor a couple of years ago, when he was there as an athlete?? well, even if you can't, which do you think is weirder? or am i comparing socks and togas?
