what's strange about japan and japanese language?it is considered impolite to use the word "you"
when being asked something, japanese people repeat the question again, wait for a confirmation, smile and then give the information, that -of course- has to be confirmed by you again. at every stage of the conversation they make funny noises like "sososo, i desu ne, so desu ka, eeee, ooohh, aaaaahh, ah and hai!
they have a special font (!!!) for foreign words, isn't that racist?
it's impolite to ask a question, that asks for a decision, even if the question would be like "would you like to do X or something else?"
when japanese people mean yes, they say: i am not sure but maybe it is like that
when japanese people mean no, they say: i am not sure, maybe that's a good idea
it could be considered offending to say "thank you very much" to a waitress or to the cashier at the supermarket
it could be considered offending to ask too many questions during class, by doing so you express, that the teacher doesn't explain properly and that you are questioning his/her abilities to teach
in a japanese sentence the most important information is given with the last syllable of the last word
1 million in japanese means 100 times 10.000
"a man killed his wife" and "a woman killed her husband" is exactly the same sentence in japanese. the meaning can only be guessed out of the context
is culture a manifestation of language or language a manifestation of culture?
